CHAPS Awarded The Kings Award for Voluntary Service

Committee members of Chase Arts for Public Spaces are honoured and excited to have been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Services!

This award is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

As you will see in ‘Our Projects’ on this website, the group – CHAPS – has, since 2003, commissioned, promoted and supported works of public art for the benefit of the Cannock Chase Community and its visitors.

This award was created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and was continued following the accession of His Majesty The King.

We are indebted to all those volunteers who have been a part of the group since its inception and include all those who have helped, advised and supported us along the way.

It was an honour to have been nominated for the award; we were thrilled that our work was deemed worthy of being taken to the next stage of the process when details and information was provided to the Office of the Lieutenancy, Staffordshire.  That led to a half day interview of some members of the group by two of the County’s Deputy Lieutenants who then put forward Chase Arts for Public Spaces as being worthy of consideration by His Majesty the King for this award.

The King has approved the KAVS National Assessment Committee’s recommendation that the volunteers of Chase Arts for Public Spaces should receive the award!

The national Team managing the KAVS said: “This represents a tremendous achievement and we hope that the group’s volunteers will feel immensely proud of it”.

We can confirm that every single one of the group feels exactly that!
